I was interviewed as a "man on the street," but I am sure I ended up on the cutting room floor because I challenged the way the "reporter" asked the questions, and I gave answers that did not comport with the Fox story narrative. The questions were highly charged and encouraged answers that support the Fox cheerleading for the Republican party. Controlling inflation and the federal interest rate is done by the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), an independent agency set up to be walled-off from short-term political pressure. This FOMC work is certainly open to criticism, and the Chair of the Federal Reserve is appointed by the President. The current chair, Jerome Powell, was first appointed by Donald Trump, and was subsequently was re-nominated by President Biden. However, inflation is way down from last year, with the US inflation rate down by over 50% from last year. I also stated what I thought of the candidates in Milwaukee for the debate. Creating "man on the street" quips is what these interviews were about., and I experienced how highly-charged the questions were and how the interview clips shown seemed cherry-picked to support a narrative.
