LISTEN: Looking ahead to 2024, the coming shift on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, Bucks In Six Forever

In the first hour of the show, I talked about how the political news cycle is beginning to shift toward a focus on 2024. That included a look at the currently-vacant field to challenge Tammy Baldwin in the race for U.S. Senate, and the suburban-rural divide between Ron DeSantis and Donald Trump that was evident in the latest Marquette University Law School Poll.
Recent Republican primaries have seen similar divides – Michels-Kleefisch; Kelly-Dorow – with the candidate with more rural support emerging victorious. Could that happen again in this race? Wisconsin is often predictive of national trends, after all.
Then, we were joined by Jeff Mandell, partner at Stafford Rosenbaum LLP and board president and co-founder at Law Forward, to talk about the coming shift on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, with Janet Protasiewicz scheduled to be seated on Aug. 1.
He talked about the implications of that coming shift, cases that could be before the court once she’s sworn in – including potential redistricting cases, and if new maps could be in place before the 2024 election – and the “transformative” change that’s about to occur.
Then in the second half of the show, we talked about our memories of two years ago on July 20 – the day the Milwaukee Bucks won the 2021 NBA Finals. JR Radcliffe of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel joined the show to share memories of that day and that remarkable postseason run, and recombobulated on a busy Bucks offseason.
And of course, we previewed our Game Six Rewatch Party happening tonight (!!!) at The Cooperage.
