Although I've never met her, Hong reminds me of AOC. That same realness, directness, and compassion, rooted in real-world experience rather than mere ideology.

If Democrats want to achieve great things we must take what might seem to be great risks. We must demand more from our government, we deserve more from it. I’m tired of settling for the best democrats have to offer being simply that they aren’t Republicans. We can have better Democrats, and they can win, if only we dare to look beyond what little we presume is possible.

Really impressed by women with ambition!

It is WAY too early to be anointing a front runner based on a poll done in February or March! (Well informed friends & neighbors of mine don’t even know who all of the candidates for governor are. ) I’d like to see how the triggering “Democratic Socialist “ label lands in Central and Northern Wisconsin. (Wisconsin is not Manhattan). I like Fran Hong, and agree that she is a strong legislator but can she beat MAGA Tom Tiffany who rubber stamps whatever the Trump regime tells him to ?!?

Thank you Dan for this in-depth look at Francesca Hong. Much appreciated.

Thanks for this great piece, Dan. I love that Hong calls out the elitism of the Democratic Party. Although I am a retired professor with a PhD, I'm still very much a working-class kid from Kentucky at heart.

My band recently played a fundraiser for Hong in Riverwest. I'm glad to support her.

I agree that Trump and his buddy Voss are in the same boat. Voss didn’t respond to my messages for 3yrs! Can you believe that BS? I sent him the same exact story I’ve sent to everyone else. He did not care enough to respond one time. My last email to him was to thank him. Thanked him for quitting and not running for office again. It’s the best thing he ever did for us. Do you remember when he tried to cheat voters? He admitted he tried to put unofficial fake electors! Remember he had to admit it so they wouldn’t continue investigating him and hold him accountable. GOP doesn’t hold anyone accountable! Too scared and no bone in their spine…

I’ve been impressed with her campaign so far, though I remain concerned on the effect she might have on down ballot races on the top of the ticket. Dems running in winnable R+5 assembly districts are going to put in a tough spot if she is the nominee.

How can you write a story on Hong and not mention that she want's Wisconsin to have the highest state income tax rate in the country?

If that leads to kids being fed, universal childcare, healthcare being affordable, schools being properly funded and the oligarchs and corporations paying their fair share, it sounds pretty great to me!

Sorry, Dan. I just can't see Hong as a leader.

Earth to left-wing dreamworld: a top income tax rate of 17.8% will result in many employers leaving Wisconsin and almost no future employers even considering being located in Wisconsin. Hong and the commenters here have no grasp of economic reality.

I'd be reluctant to support Hong if there were an obvious safe choice (because god help us if we lose that veto, and one veto is as good as another) but it really doesn't seem that there is.
