The Recombobulation Area is a ten-time Milwaukee Press Club award-winning weekly opinion column and online publication written, edited and published by veteran Milwaukee journalist Dan Shafer. Learn more about it here.
The debate over what should be done with the lake spur of 794 in downtown Milwaukee has reached a critical point. Tomorrow is LAST CALL for public comments on the suite of options presented as part of the “Lakefront Interchange Study,” so if you haven’t shared your thoughts with WisDOT, go here.
Multiple sources have told us that these comments are being taken seriously, perhaps moreso than they had been previously, so it’s really important to make your voice heard.
As for our story, published in partnership with Milwaukee Record, we take a closer look at the debate at hand, why it’s happening now, where city leaders stand, and the symbolic importance of this inflection point moment for the city.
“Highways are best used going to a city, not through a city. Blasting lanes and lanes of concrete through dense neighborhoods does not improve the city. Period.”
Let’s recombobulate.
