Gov. Tony Evers delivered his seventh State of the State Address at the Capitol in Madison, and Civic Media was there with live coverage across the Civic Media network.
The broadcast was anchored by Todd Allbaugh, host of “The Todd Allbaugh Show,” and featured Pat Kreitlow, host of “UpNorthNews Radio,” and James Kelly and Lisa Hale of the Civic Media news team.
Among topics discussed by the governor were the economy and taxes, modernizing government, gun violence prevention, suicide prevention, child care, health care, LGBTQ rights, reproductive rights, and more. He also addressed the topic of immigration in context of Donald Trump’s inauguration earlier this week.
Evers also proclaimed it to be the “Year of the Kid,” and discussed proposals to provide free meals at schools, improve funding for education, ensure that water is free of contaminants like lead and PFAS, and invest more than $300 million in mental health resources in schools.
Among the most powerful moments of the speech was, when talking about suicide prevention, the governor paid homage to the late Jonathan Brostoff and acknowledged his wife and family seated in the gallery.
The Republican response came from Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, who focused on tax cuts, immigration, and reading standards in K-12 education.

Evers is awesome! Vos is a do**e.
I’ll never forget him, all clad in PPE, directing cars to park, to vote in the 2020 April primary, in Madison, when in lock down and would not extend the time.
Instead of helping people in WI the surplus was decided by our GOP supermajority to give a property tax cut…what it was I didn’t notice and would gladly have donated it.
WI got it so wrong with Trump and we’ve got to keep the Supreme Court liberal!!!
