In these discombobulating times, let’s recombobulate together.
The Recombobulation Area is a weekly opinion column by veteran Milwaukee journalist Dan Shafer. Learn more about it here.
Greetings, readers! The time has come once again for you to send in your questions for the next reader mailbag.
You always ask such great questions, and I can’t wait to see what you’re interested in talking about right now.
Because there is so much happening right now. From the state budget battle to the GOP’s voter suppression efforts to the late stages of the coronavirus pandemic to Milwaukee’s soon-arriving $406 million in American Rescue Plan funding, and on down the list, there’s a lot for us to talk about. We’ve even got a fresh quarterback saga in Green Bay and a Milwaukee Bucks playoff run starting up. Really, no topic is off limits.
So send in your questions to therecombobulationarea@gmail.com, tweet them to @DanRShafer, find us on Instagram at @therecombobulationarea, or leave a comment below.
PLUS: We are running a subscription special right now for new Facebook followers. Show us that you Like and Share The Recombobulation Area on Facebook and you will be eligible for a full-year subscription for just $10. That’s 80% off!
Sending a screenshot would work best, so hit us up via Email/Tweet/Instagram with proof to get the special access link to get that sweet, sweet discount.
One more thing: We already know that The Recombobulation Area is the winner of three (THREE!) Milwaukee Press Club Excellence in Wisconsin Journalism Awards. Next week on May 19, we’ll find out if those awards are Gold, Silver or Bronze. Wish us luck! We wouldn’t be here without you. Thank you for your support.
Yes, the news can be pretty discombobulating. But that’s why we’re here. Let’s recombobulate, together. Send in those questions!

Some/most days it's extremely discouraging to be politically "in tune" living in this state. What gives you the most optimism? Can anything really get better without fairer representation at the state level? Is a ban on gerrymandering the first domino that needs to fall? And what if it fails? Thanks, Dan - appreciate your work, love of all things Milwaukee, the state as a whole, the Bucks, etc.
