Conversations on hope, civility and action with LuAnn Bird.

Last year, during the midterm election, I wrote a story about a candidate running for Wisconsin State Assembly. That candidate was LuAnn Bird.
Her campaign slogan was “Choose Civility,” and she really demonstrated that throughout her run, especially through talking to people in her district, out knocking on doors.
One of the many remarkable aspects of her unconventional campaign was just her ability to have a conversation with anyone. So, after the story and after the election, we stayed in touch, and we realized that while the campaign came up 2% short, those conversations that started needed to continue.
So, we are starting a podcast series. The podcast is called “Bird on a Wire,” and it will feature conversations on hope, civility and action with a variety of different guests.
“In 2022, I decided to run for the Assembly instead of just complaining about our broken political system,” said Bird. “It was time to become part of the change I wanted to see, so I ran a positive, nontraditional campaign based on civility and hope. By listening and engaging in civil conversations, I built relationships with voters (and we almost won). The “Bird on a Wire” podcast series will allow us to talk with guests who were part of our journey and share stories of hope and inspiration so you, our listeners, believe we can take action and change things.”
“Civility is not passive,” she added. “Our democracy is at stake!”
