ICYMI: Recombobulating on the radio (Week of March 10, 2024)
Listen to recent appearances on 620 WTMJ, WORT FM, Civic Media and more.
The Recombobulation Area is a ten-time Milwaukee Press Club award-winning weekly opinion column and online publication written, edited and published by longtime Milwaukee journalist Dan Shafer. Learn more about it here.
Here at The Recombobulation Area, we’ve been doing more and more radio these days, so I wanted to make sure our wonderful subscribers are hearing and seeing these appearances each week.
This week, I guest hosted “WTMJ At Night,” co-hosted “Spanning the State,” was a featured guest on WORT’s “A Public Affair” for a full hour, and as is the case every week, was a guest on the “Political Power Hour,” “Driving it Home with Patti Vasquez” and “Matenaer On Air.”
We’re going to run down all of those appearances here in the newsletter every Friday afternoon to give you something to recombobulate with into the weekend.
First, you can find Tuesday’s show from “WTMJ At Night” right here as a commercial-free podcast.
Guests included Dr. Ben Weston, chief health policy advisor for Milwaukee County, joined to discuss the County's new reckless driving dashboard (which you can see here). Jeramey Jannene, president of Urban Milwaukee, joined to discuss upcoming local elections in Milwaukee, as well as President Biden’s visit to the city. Rob Henken, president of the Wisconsin Policy Forum, joined to talk about their new report on Milwaukee Public Schools and the upcoming referendum (see that report here).
On Thursday, I joined Kristin Brey on “Spanning the State.” Guests included Melissa Sanchez, who has written a terrific series for ProPublica called “America’s Dairyland,” on undocumented people and immigrants who work on dairy farms in the state (you really need to read that series, if you haven’t yet). We were also joined by Claire Koenig of VISIT Milwaukee to talk about the upcoming “Top Chef” premiere, Alison McCoy Freshman of McFleshman’s Brewing to talk about a new tipping system, and by Carmen Petri of Sojourner Peace Center and Heidi Dalibor of New Barons Brewing Cooperative to talk about their Women’s Month event that’s raising funding and awareness for those impacted by domestic violence.
Listen below.
On Wednesday, I joined Sara Gabler on WORT FM in Madison for “A Public Affair.” For the full hour, we talked about Wisconsin’s new legislative maps and what’s next for state politics in life after The Gerrymander.
On Thursday evening, I joined Patti Vasquez of Heartland Signal and WCPT 820 in Chicago for our weekly segment on all things Wisconsin. Listen here (49:00 mark).
On Friday, I joined “Matenaer On Air” across the Civic Media network. Listen here (22:00).
And on Tuesday, I joined Steve Scaffidi for the “Political Power Hour” on 620 WTMJ.
Thanks for listening and for recombobulating with us! We’ll see you next week.
