There’s a new documentary short that was just released that focuses on a business right here in Milwaukee County, and on the lives of the many people working there.
That business is Eder Flag, the largest manufacturer of flags and flagpoles in the nation, located in Oak Creek. Through this documentary — The Flagmakers, now streaming on Disney+ — you get to know the people who make these flags, many of whom are immigrants and refugees. It’s an American story. It’s a Milwaukee story.
It’s a terrific story and one that’s really worth watching, and it’s receiving a whole lot of attention and acclaim right now, as one of the films on the short list to be nominated for an Academy Award.
We had the opportunity to talk with the filmmakers behind The Flagmakers, and with one of the people featured in the film, for this piece that is published in partnership with our friends at Milwaukee Record.
