There’s an important debate unfolding about the future of the Brewers and Major League Baseball in Milwaukee. Both the Democratic governor and legislative Republicans have proposed sizable funding packages for upgrades and maintenance at American Family Field, which would secure an extension of the team’s lease at the ballpark for several decades.
The Republican-backed bill gets its first public hearing in committee today at State Fair Park, so this debate is entering its next phase. But as we go forward, it’s important that we take the time to learn from our recent history in this realm of professional sports facility financing. We just did this a few years ago with Fiserv Forum and it has proven to be pretty successful.
So, to learn from that recent history, I took a deep dive to compare the 2015 deal to build Fiserv Forum and the new deal to fund maintenance and upgrades at American Family Field.
Let’s recombobulate.
